The EFL Championship season typically runs from August to May, aligning with the traditional European football calendar. This period sees 24 teams compete in a packed schedule, playing each other twice over the course of the season—once at home and once away. The league matches are usually held on weekends, with the occasional midweek fixtures. The best performing teams in the division are rewarded with promotion to the illustrious English Premier League; automatic promotion is granted to the two highest placed clubs while those finishing between 3rd and 6th place enter a tournament-style playoff with the victorious club being granted the final spot. All EFL Championship clubs are also eligible to play in the FA Cup.
The broadcasting rights to show EFL Championship fixtures belongs primarily to Sky Sports, hence the league often being referred to as the Skybet Championship due to sponsorship reasons. Most EFL Championship Fixtures for the 2024/25 season can be watched on one of their dedicated channels such as Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports +; for more in-depth information on where each individual match is being shown, reference our EFL Championship on TV guide.
